The Lamjung Himal Base Camp Trek is a remote and seldom-visited trail that offers spectacular views of the Manaslu and Annapurna ranges. It takes you through lush forests and traditional Gurung villages to the base of the Lamjung Himal (6,983m). This trek is perfect for those who want to experience the "old Nepal" — remote, wild, and incredibly hospitable.
Highlights of the Trek
- Spectacular Mountain Vistas: Enjoy panoramic views of Mt. Manaslu, Himal Chuli, Ngadi Chuli (Peak 29), and the entire Annapurna range from various points along the trail.
- Sikles Village: One of the largest and most well-preserved Gurung villages in Nepal, famous for its traditional architecture and warm hospitality.
- Pristine Wilderness: Trek through untouched forests of rhododendron and oak, teeming with birdlife and natural beauty.
- Solitude: This trail is far from the main trekking routes like the Annapurna Circuit, ensuring a peaceful and authentic experience.
The Route through Sikles
Starting from Pokhara, the trek moves through the terraced hills of the Gurung heartland. The village of Sikles serves as a major cultural hub and a jumping-off point for the higher ridges. As you ascend beyond Sikles, the trail becomes narrower and more rugged, leading you through high pastures and eventually to the base of the massive Lamjung Himal.
Suggested Itinerary
- Pokhara to Sikles: Drive/Trek to the beautiful Gurung village of Sikles.
- Sikles to Tasa: Steep climb through rhododendron forests to higher pastures.
- Tasa to Dharmasala: Reach the high ridges with stunning views of the Manaslu range.
- Dharmasala to Lamjung Himal BC: The final push to the base camp (approx 4,400m).
- Return to Sikles: Descend back through the same route or via Khumai Danda.
Best Time to Visit
The best time for this trek is October to November for clear skies and March to April for the vibrant rhododendron blooms. Since this is a remote trek, it is essential to be well-prepared for varying weather conditions.
